[Update] Australian temporary activity visa framework

by Sam Hopwood | Oct 17, 2016
  • A new temporary activity visa framework will come into effect on 19 November 2016. The Australian government aims to reduce the paperwork around these visas, by removing sponsorship and nomination requirements for certain short stay activities.
  • Australian visa

    What’s changing?

There are currently seven temporary activity visa classes. This will now be reduced to four:

    • Subclass 400 Temporary Work (Short Stay Specialist) visa
    • Subclass 403 Temporary Work (International Relations) visa
    • Subclass 407 Training visa
    • Subclass 408 Temporary Activity visa

The Subclass 408 Temporary Activity visa replaces six existing sponsorship types: Long Stay Activity, Training and Research, Professional Development, Entertainment, Special Program and Superyacht Crew.

This means applicants will no longer be able to apply for the following five visa subclasses:

    • Subclass 401 Temporary Work (Long Stay Activity)
    • Subclass 402 Training and Research
    • Subclass 416 Special Program
    • Subclass 420 Temporary Work (Entertainment)
    • Subclass 488 Superyacht Crew

    Will it affect you?

This change will not affect applications lodged before 19 November 2016. However, if your nomination was approved before this date, it cannot be linked to a visa application made after 19 November 2016.

    The cost

All visas within the new framework will cost $275.00.
