Tier 1 Visa Cap Reinstated

by 1st Contact | Dec 21, 2010
  • Yesterday we reported that the temporary cap on Tier 1 (General) and Tier 2 (General) had been deemed unlawful by the UK High Court. Unfortunately, this ruling has been nullified by this morning’s sitting of parliament.
  • Immigration

The Immigration minister, Damian Green, laid policy before parliament today to reinstate the cap on Tier 1 (General) visas from outside the UK. This policy has already received approval, and Tier 1 (General) applications made outside the UK will cease to be accepted from 23 December 2010.

This means that no more applications for Tier 1 (General) will be accepted from outside the UK on or after 23 December 2010. Applications for Tier 1 (General) made by those who reside in the UK with a current visa category which permits ‘switching’ into Tier 1 (General) will remain open until 05 April 2011.
