Check your visa status

With the start of a new year, it is very important that you ensure that you are aware of your visa status.

Forgetting to renew your visa in time is a common absent-minded mistake that many visitors to the UK make. This results in a very unpleasant experience and will result in you having to leave the UK permanently, and what’s more, you could also have serious travel and monetary repercussions.

It is also important to bare in mind that most visa categories take 6 months for a decision and your passport will be held permanently during this.

Don’t be faced with this type of situation – make sure you are up to date with the status of your visa and use 1st Contact to secure a fast track appointment and get your UKBA decision the same day.

Majority of cases are concluded the same day, however IT or technical issues have been known to delay a visa every now and then.

I’m an Australian citizen and my UK ancestry visa expired 26th October 2012. I applied for an extension before it expired and received a letter from UKBA saying it was all received and being processed. I just found out I got into uni back in OZ so had to request my documents back on the 15th Jan 2013, and they were received today 22nd Jan 2013. I was told that I have full rights to live and work here in the UK while a decision was being made. As I cancelled this on the 15th I am assuming I no longer have these rights. Am I correct in thinking I must leave the UK within 28 days of the 15th Jan in order to not be automatically disqualified from attempting to get another visa once I return to OZ. As far as I can see I am legal here up until the the cancellation on the 15th. Any help would be greatly apprecaited as my g/f is here and I want to be able to return if possible.
