While it may come as a surprise to many, the first IT jobs data for the period immediately after the UK’s Brexit decision indicates that hirers in the sector are thriving.
Figures show that almost 12,000 IT jobs were added to UK recruiter Reed Group’s website in the three weeks following the EU referendum; showing a 14% increase from the same period last year.
Of the IT jobs added in this period, a third are temporary or on a contract basis, a figure that has remained unchanged since June 2015. This shows that it’s mostly business as usual, with 83% of companies surveyed saying that they did not plan to freeze recruitment.
According to Reed Group, the IT roles showing the most growth in the period following the Brexit vote are:

- Web Developer
- Analyst Prog/Dev
- Project Manager
- First Line Support/Helpdesk
- Business Analyst
- Software Engineer
- Second Line Support
- Database Developer
More than 7 million people use Reed Group to find jobs every year. Stats have shown that 150,000 more jobs have been added since 23 June 2016, when compared to the same period last year.
Apart from IT, engineering, education, and sales have also shown positive growth since June, with more people expected to come to the UK on the back of favourable exchange rates. With this, positions in tourism and hospitality are also expected to increase.
The market remains strongest in London, with 15,000 new jobs advertised, followed by Manchester and Birmingham.
