Get to the Rugby World Cup 2015 with a UK Visitor visa

There are only a few months to go before the 2015 Rugby World Cup kicks off, and there’s no better way to experience it than in person. Now is a good time to get your travel plans sorted if you want to see the games live. Here you’ll find everything you need to know about getting to the UK for the tournament.

As you’ll probably (or at least hopefully) be on holiday during the World Cup, you only need to get a UK Visitor visa.

In most cases, a visitor visa is granted at a UK port of entry. However, if you’re a citizen or national of one of the visa national countries (South Africa is one of them), you’ll need to get your visa before heading to the UK. You can check if you need a UK visa here.

The criteria for this visa are simple: You must be planning to have a holiday and not do any work during your stay. There are, however, a number of necessary documents you must provide with your visa application.

You must show that you intend to leave the UK at the end of your visit. The easiest way to do this is to make sure you have your return flight booked before you reach a UK port of entry.

You’ll also need to be able to support yourself and all of your dependents during the trip. Don’t forget to bring extra Pounds for all the rugby balls and signed jerseys you may want to pick up. You can show bank statements or payslips from the past six months to prove that you can cover holiday expenses.

For the visa application you will have to hand in your current passport and bring one passport-sized colour photograph.

If any of your documents are not in English or Welsh you’ll need to have a certified translation with you.

If you’re bringing your children along, up to two adults can be specified as guardians on each visa application. The visa will only be valid if under-18s travel with at least one of the adults.

Even if you’re travelling as a group, you must submit separate applications for each person. You can check out the estimated visa processing times to make sure you get your UK Visitor visa in time.
