‘When these disasters occur, they affect our friends, family, people we know, people we don’t know. Here is a way of helping out when we can only watch on TV ’. – David Pocock (Punch Tavern Manager/Event Organiser)
On Saturday evening 5th March 2011, The Punch Tavern will be hosting a Charity Fund Raiser for The Australian Red Cross, to assist them in helping victims of the Flood Disasters in Australia early this year.
The pub has generously agreed to donate the venue, 10% of bar and 50% of food takings on the night. The event will include a Raffle, Charity Auction, Aussie inspired finger food (including Vegemite Toasties) and an Australian music marathon.
The event is tipped to be just as successful as the one we held in 2009 for the Victorian Bushfire Appeal. That event was attended by over 200 people, and raised over £5,000.
Described as an ‘inland tsunami’ the scale of the tragedy that has taken place is hard to comprehend and, for the organisers of this event, it’s being so far away that has made us feel helpless.
“We anticipate that the event will again be attended in part by other like-minded expats, from Australia and around the globe, to show their support for those whose lives and families have been torn apart.” – Reschelle O’Connor (Event Organiser)
Tickets are £10 – 50% of this will be donated to the charity and the remainder will cover finger food during the evening.
The Punch Tavern are still looking for items to be donated for Auction and Raffle, as well as volunteers to assist during the event. Those who wish to help or who would like further details are asked to contact David Pocock directly via email: email@example.com
Support shown from businesses will also be recognised (with permission) in any subsequent press releases, posters and on screen during the event.
Event details can be found on The Punch Tavern website (www.punchtavern.com) or The Punch Tavern Facebook page.
Contact David Pocock (firstname.lastname@example.org) for a copy of the invitation and further details.
Any offers of donations for auction/raffle items gratefully received.
