UK Visas & Immigration (UKVI) and the Greater London Authority (GLA) have launched a three-month pilot project aimed at SMEs that need to hire employees from outside the European Economic Area (EEA).
The project is geared towards fast-growing SMEs on the lookout for skilled international employees from outside EEA member states. These businesses often struggle to navigate the complex UK visa system, especially if it’s their first time hiring overseas employees. As a result, some business owners choose to employ EEA nationals even if they had already identified a more suitable candidate elsewhere.
The GLA has included a new toolkit on their website that helps these businesses follow the correct process for recruiting international applicants. This includes an overview for sponsoring an overseas worker, as well as a best practice guide and some handy FAQs. The online portal is supported by the UK Home Office, which provides additional advice for complex issues and queries.
